Dear guest,
We welcome you to our restaurant BAMYAN Narges.

The kitchen is each restaurant’s heart. Our kitchen is a true effigy of the traditional art of the Afghan cuisine. Fresh ingredients, products and dishes, refined with homemade spices, blended according to family recipes, are of the utmost importance to us.

The name of our restaurant derives from the famous Buddha statues in the valley of BAMYAN, where Narges, as a child, admired those huge sculptures. To everybody’s horror, they were destroyed by the Taliban in March of 2001.

The Bamyan Valley lies next to the old silk road and used to be a transit camp for travelers in ancient times. About 1500 years ago and with enormous efforts, Buddhist monks carved the sculpture out of the mile-long sandstone wall of the Bamyan Valley which by then was a Buddhist center. The valley itself lies 230 kilometers north-east of Kabul, at a height of 2500 meters. The sculptures were 55, respectively 38 meters tall and, in thus, comparable to the Statue of Liberty.

Narges, the restaurant’s owner, takes pride in her provenience and of her cultural heritage: “There is a certain memory of Afghanistan that will always stay with me. When I was a little girl, my mother and I visited the huge Buddha statues in the Bamyan Valley. We experienced a glorious sunset there, the sun was going down behind the mountains and the sand and the colors were just amazing.”

Narges projected her own biography onto her restaurants with atmospheric light and subtle details, and she made both places her personal haven. Hand-carved tables with crafted shiny decors, representing a lot of different denotations. Dreamy wall ornaments and subtle light are the perfect surrounding for a harmonious Afghan dinner. “There are no random elements. Every detail has a background and a personal meaning”, Narges explains. In between charming details of the restaurant’s decorations, there are visual components of culture on display. The impressive wall décor, for example, signifies the symbol of the guarding eye.

Afghan mythology tells us that the guarding eye protects from evil. The integrated shapes of daffodils have a certain meaning as well, since this flower is held in high esteem in Asia and signifies the human eye. The daffodil also protects and provides comfort. Narges brought the wisdom of the Orient to Munich. Discover the décor, personally designed by Narges, in our restaurants in Munich’s Gärtnerplatz- and Glockenbach districts. Native-born Narges loves to tell her guests about her country’s culture, its art of food and life itself in Afghanistan, best enjoyed in the cozy dinner lounge in Klenzestraße 47. In addition to a “classical” restaurant atmosphere, our guests are invited to experience Afghan flair and food on comfortable seat cushions.

Be enchanted by our food, prepared in our family’s culinary tradition according to our own recipes and refined with homemade spice compositions. Bamyan Narges offers a wide variety of delicacies, among them fish and meat fried on the lava rock grill, as well as special vegetarian and vegan dishes and unusual sorts of rice. Oriental ambiance, exceptional Afghan cuisine and the highest standards in hospitality go without saying.

But now we’d like you to enjoy our Afghan cuisine with all your senses! Enjoy your meal and have a good time!
